Guru Call - Adobe 9.1.1 Postscript Blowout

    erronc

      Hi everyone

Can someone please help regarding the postscript file that Adobe Reader 9.1.1 generates for printing, when you call:

Private Declare Function ReadFile Lib "Kernel32" (ByVal hFile As Long, lpBuffer As Any, ByVal nNumberOfBytesToRead As Long, lpNumber
OfBytesRead As Long, lpOverlapped As Any) As Long

We have created a printer driver that uses the above function to extract the postscript file from any application (Word, Reader, Excel etc) and we then use ghostscript to convert this postscript file to a PDF document.

Everything was working beautifully until we installed Adobe Reader 9.1.1.

We found the following with a 979k PDF document:

      Client Application:                                                             Adobe Reader 7.1

Postscript File Size (after the above call):                         1297k

Ghostscript PDF Size (after converting postscript file):       979k

      Client Application:                                                             PDF Tops

Postscript File Size (after the above call):                         1296k

Ghostscript PDF Size (after converting postscript file):       979k

      Client Application:                                                             Adobe Reader 9.1.1

Postscript File Size (after the above call):                         2626k

Ghostscript PDF Size (after converting postscript file):      2032k

As you can see, Adobe Reader 9.1.1 now generates a postscript file that is 103% fatter than it should be.

Does anyone know what we would have to do in Adobe Reader 9.1.1 so that it spits out a 1297k postscript file (with no bells and whistles) so that when we convert this postscript file to a PDF, we get a PDF that is EXACTLY the same size as the original?

Adobe has added something in Reader 9.1.1 that is blowing out the postscript file size and we wouldn't have a clue what is is.

      Cheers and TIA

      Erron

PS: The 979k original file is sensitive PROD data so unfortunately I can't post it as sample data.
