1. Re: Premiere 4.1 download
Bill Hunt May 29, 2009 10:17 AM (in response to Alart15)I would guess that there is some additional code that must be written to include the full install module. The feeling is that the main package can be released for the Auto update, using the installer included there. Once that package is done, a team gets to work assembling that package with an installer, that's been waiting in the wings. This could account for the time lag. I doubt that Adobe wishes to "punish" anybody, but who knows?
Good luck,
Hunt

Harm Millaard May 29, 2009 10:21 AM (in response to Alart15)But this is absolutely normal in order to avoid all the Internet related problems.
That is your choice, possibly because of lacking security. With good security there is no reason not to connect to the internet. So what problems are you talking about?

Alart15 May 29, 2009 10:53 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Well, they post the update today, on Friday. Not the day before yesterday, not yesterday
but today making this last May Friday the real Friday knowing haw everybody waiting.
Doubt that's because they didn't have time to wrap the thing up completely .They simply
don't care.

Bill Hunt May 29, 2009 1:16 PM (in response to Alart15)I agree with another poster in a similar thread. This has got to be a record for getting the full download out the same day as the AUM version. Guess that they had that installation module polished and ready to go. Just dropped it into place and stick it on the server.
Nice job Adobe!
Now, it does appear that the 4.1 for AME might be lagging just a bit, but remember that there are probably many changes. Not sure how the moving of the Export>Still function might have impacted AME. Time will tell.
Hunt
PS has anybody noticed that the overall speed of the fora seems to have picked up, even with the extra traffic? For about 4 days, it was slo-o-w, but now it's rather quick. I'm certainly not complaining, but would have assumed that things would slow down even more. I do not see that.

Bill Hunt May 29, 2009 1:18 PM (in response to Curt Wrigley)Curt,
Maybe you can sleep in this weekend. It seems that most of the Barbarians have left the gate and gone home to play with their new toy. The rest will pack up, as soon as the 4.1 AME update gets posted. Should get quiet at your place, though not on the forum
Sleep well,

9. Re: Premiere 4.1 download
Harm Millaard May 29, 2009 2:37 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)There are strange things done by Adobe, son....
By those men who moil for prey --
And Amtrak's rails have their secret tales
That would make your hair turn grey,
And United's flights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see --
Was that night at O'Hare -- we wuz socked in there --
When I evaluated Sam McGee.
Now Sam McGee was from Tennessee,
Where the cotton blooms and blows --
Why he left his home for the business zone
God only knows.
Underpaid, he toiled, yet the business world
Seemed to grip him like a spell --
Tho he'd often say, in his homely way
That he'd sooner live in Hell.
Twas a wintry day -- we wuz pushin' our way
To this plant where he did his work
Talk of a mess -- I must confess
That plant was going beserk!
Their boss was a snob -- the controller, a slob,
And the most of the staff wuz much worse
And their union wuz bad -- and their quality -- sad,
And they answered complaints with a curse.
That bunch of prime fools just broke all the rules
But the company made lots of dough --
Poor McGee got no raise, and he never got praise
They just told him to shut up or go!
And that night at O'Hare, as we sat drinkin' there
Much depressed by delays -- with our drinks --
McGee turns to me -- and Pal, sez he,
I'll flunk out on my job, I guess --
But before I do, I'm a-asking you
That you won't refuse my last request.
Well, he seemed so low that I couldn't say no.
Then he says with a sort of a moan
It's my cursed low pay -- tho I toil night and day
Tho I've worked myself to the bone --
Now, I want you to swear that foul or fair
(Don't think I have lost all my senses) --
You will rate me so high that, for once, 'fore I die,
My paycheck will meet my expenses.
I stiffly replied -- with professional pride --
Such a thing a Premiere man couldn't do!
Then I took a long drink -- and I started to think
Why not spring this guy from his stew?
So we talked of his work -- he wuz mostly a clerk,
And we drank to the meaning of life --
And why life has still -- less good here than ill,
And how much he spent on his wife.
After reading all this, maybe AME CS4 4.1.0 will be available. It was for me at 8:28 this morning, before PR became available.
BTW loading projects is indeed a lot snappier than it was. Loading a 30 minute project (source material is 1:35 hours) with 17 AE comps, 100+ HDV clips, and some miscellaneous material within 4 seconds is not bad.

Bill Hunt May 29, 2009 3:20 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)Harm,
I think that you should get the 10 pts. for this, with a nod to Robert Service.
Well done and glad to hear that the 4.1 AME update was up for you. A few were asking about it, and much later than you downloaded it, unless you're in Hawai`i now. Was this the AUM version, or the full download.
Thanks for the read,
Hunt

Sheri Codiana May 29, 2009 4:06 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Just want to say thanks - it's actually pretty complicated to get everything coordinated to post in one day - there are a lot of different groups involved. This was definitely a great way for us to to start the weekend.

13. Re: Premiere 4.1 download
Keith_Andrews May 29, 2009 5:26 PM (in response to Alart15)Just out of curiousity, why is the PPCS4.1 update through AUM 110.2MB, but saying it's only 30.5MB in the update page at Adobe.com?? This is not including the seperate 63.7MB file for AME through AUM.
UPDATE: I just downloaded the file from Adobe's website and it is the correct 110MB. The size listed on the website is incorrect. Wanted to make sure there was no difference in files depending on which method we upgraded through. Had a scare there for a second.

Sheri Codiana May 30, 2009 7:59 AM (in response to Keith_Andrews)Yes, there's an error with the size listing. The Adobe.com team is aware of it and is looking in to it.

15. Re: Premiere 4.1 download
Alan Craven Jun 25, 2009 10:58 PM (in response to Alart15)I am finally in a position where I can install this patch. I assume that the three patches released since the original version 4.0 are cumulative, i,e, I can install the new V4.1 patch straight onto a fresh install of the original V4.0 from the DVD, without installing V4.0.1 and V4.0.2?

16. Re: Premiere 4.1 download
Sheri Codiana Jun 26, 2009 1:12 AM (in response to Alan Craven)The 4.1 update includes the 4.0.1 changes, so just apply the latest update (there was no 4.0.2).

Alan Craven Jun 26, 2009 3:19 AM (in response to Sheri Codiana)Thank you, I thought it would be the case.
I got mixed up with the earlier updates - one of my two was for Media Encoder.
I have now discovered that there is a separate update for Media Encoder 4.1. This states clearly on the download page that it includes the earlier patches.
It is a pity that the equivalent information was not included on the Premiere 4.1 download page
