I have a Canon Vixia HV30 Camcorder. I have it set to record in HDV24 and to downconvert to WideScreen SD.
The first frame or clip of each tape i use imported into Premiere Elements 7.0 as 4x3 video instead of 16x9 video. The subsequent frames or clips are imported into Premiere Elements 7.0 as 16x9 video/frames...I am using Windows XP Pro SP3.
The only work around i have found is to shoot a one second frame first and then delete it in Premiere Elements when i import the tape...
I'm not sure why this is happening, NBK. The Canon HV series usually interfaces very nicely with Premiere Elements, when connected via FireWire.
Your problems could be related to that 24 fps frame rate you're shooting at. Premiere Elements doesn't support that frame rate, so you're probably seeing a blended frame in the program.
Try using the more traditional ~29 fps NTSC or 25 fps PAL rates and see if that makes a difference.
I did some research and discovered that Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher was causing a host of problems. I uninstalled and now i can capture properly at 16x9.
Good news, Martyr! Happy moviemaking!
