I just tested this by just adding the 'Rollover Cursor Change' behavior to a wmv sprite and to a sprite over the wmv. I found that:
* On a rollover, the cursor will always be the arrow while the video is playing.
* If you mouseDown over the wmv, the cursor changes (following the behavior settings)
* If the video is paused, the cursor that is set with the behavior will work - so you could make it blank.
So, it looks like that when a WMV is playing, it takes control of the cursor and won't allow you to change it with Lingo.I actually don't like WMVs all that much. particularly through Director.
I don't think it is a good method to use .wmv video in Director. The best way to use videos is to import these files into flash, then convert them into .flv format and export it as a .swf file.
Then import this .swf video file into Director. You can deal with the video file as a normal sprite. Do everything you can do to it.
On the swf and flv front, I have a tutorial on this . It includes a set of template files to use a SWF player that you can link to any FLV with a Director behavior. Also has a behavior for a wait until the end of the FLV and other FLV controls. It can be found at:
Thanks everyone for the help! Its great to be able talk to other developers and the suggestions are really helpful. What I ended up doing was using Buddy xtra and just moving the cursor down to the bottom right hand corner of the screen while the video is playing. For all intents, its not visible at all.
The project is not a traditional Director application. Its a kiosk using an I-Viewer from Exhibit Engineering (www.exhibitengineering.com) so things are a bit more complicated. In this case, the wmv files seemed to work the best and had the smoothest playback as the viewer moved over to their area of the score, so I didn't want to switch to a different video format.
Check the I-Viewer out, its pretty cool.
In any event, things are working fine now, the exhibit had a preview party tonight and the app performed flawlessly.
Thanks again for all the suggestions!
