Curt Wrigley Jun 4, 2009 10:01 AM (in response to jdmoor)Its a common request, but not possible that I know of.
ALT + Doubleclick near the center of the work bar will make it exapnd to the length of the project though.

jdmoor Jun 4, 2009 10:04 AM (in response to Curt Wrigley)Yes, that is correct. I was hoping there was a 'reset' of which I wasn't
aware.
Thanks for the reply...

3. Re: How to reset work area bar?
JSS1138 Jun 4, 2009 12:05 PM (in response to jdmoor)The only way I can figure out how to regain automatic resizing is to copy/paste all the clips into a new sequence, one whose WAB has never been manually adjusted. Seems Adobe has continually forgotten to code a way to reinstate such automatic resizing for each new version of Premiere.

4. Re: How to reset work area bar?
Colin Brougham Jun 4, 2009 1:10 PM (in response to jdmoor)So far, I've found that if the work area bar is set to the full duration of the timeline (by dragging the in/out markers or by double-clicking the time ruler), I'm able to add and remove clips from the end of the timeline, and the work area bar automagically "recalculates". Didn't have to do anything special beyond this. If, however, the work area bar is set to a duration shorter than the entire timeline, it will not adjust when clips are added or removed from the timeline. This doesn't work for you?

5. Re: How to reset work area bar?
jdmoor Jun 4, 2009 3:13 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)Colin,
Not really. Often, for various reasons, I find I have a need to manually
adjust the work area bar from time to time. As you said, once that is done
so the work area bar is less than the full length, it's game over as far as
it ever going back to automatically recalculating and adjusting as clips are
added or deleted for that matter.
It's not a big deal, just a little annoyance but I wish "they" would add
that to one of the "." updates.
Thanks,
Jd

JSS1138 Jun 4, 2009 9:20 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)This doesn't work for you?
Never tries it in CS4. Doesn't work in 2.0 or CS3. Once you manually adjust the WAB, there's no way to get back automatic resizing. It stays at the current size until you manually adjust it again, either by moving the ends, or double clicking to again encompass the whole sequence.

Luis Cepeda Oct 8, 2010 4:45 PM (in response to JSS1138)This is not only annoying but it is also a pain for me, I do a lot accidently double click that work area bar (WAB) and after that I can not get it to reset anymore, I did one time though but I was not smart enough to recor this action and forgot, so where is somebody from Adobe to answer this and say that at least it is not possible now or that there is a way. come on this is not a game Adobe face it and give us a clue.

9. Re: How to reset work area bar?
Bill Hunt Oct 9, 2010 5:18 PM (in response to Luis Cepeda)I have never had an issue with the WAB. It always behaves, as I want it to.
If you need to reset to the full Timeline, just hit \ (Backslash key) to zoom out the full Timeline. Dbl-click on the little square in the middle of the WAB and it will reset to full Timeline.
To set the WAB to less than full, just drag on the little "brackets" one the end of the WAB.
Good luck,
Hunt

10. Re: How to reset work area bar?
JSS1138 Oct 9, 2010 8:39 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)The issue, Bill, is that even after resetting to the entire sequence, adding or deleting clips won't change the WAB any more.
Once you change it manually, it simply doesn't go back to automatic resizing.

able123 Oct 10, 2010 3:52 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Bill,
In your sample graphic I see a bunch of cross dissolves but also ( between the crosses and in center of clip ) stuff denoted by B, P, C, L etc...what are they ?

Bill Hunt Oct 10, 2010 10:13 AM (in response to able123)Rod,
Those are the Clip names, but are truncated in that full Timeline view. When Expanded/zoomed in, they show.
To the OP,
I have never seen the WAB get stuck, and adjust it many times in the course of editing. I have no idea why it freezes on you.

17. Re: How to reset work area bar?
jdmoor Oct 11, 2010 11:54 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Bill,
The WAB doesn't 'freeze'. If you ever manually adjust the WAB, then from
that point forward, it no longer will 'auto adjust' it's length when you add
more clips to the timeline. In a 'new' project, as you add clips, the WAB
automatically lengthens to match the full length of all the clips on the
timeline. Again, if you ever manually adjust the WAB, we can't figure out
how to make it 'automatically' adjust after that. We know if you add more
clips, you can double click and all that, but it's that 'auto adjust'
feature that is lost. Small, but aggravating at times.

18. Re: How to reset work area bar?
dzp video Oct 11, 2010 12:12 PM (in response to jdmoor)I have noticed that when I was working in CS3 you could mouse over the workbar... and a small window would pop-up showing you how long the workbar area was. In CS4 this does not happen. In other words in CS3 you could time how long the video was under the workbar area! This was a useful function for me and now I don't have it with CS4.

You should still be seeing that tooltip in CS4

Bill Hunt Oct 11, 2010 2:46 PM (in response to dzp video)It is starting to sound like your installation of CS4 might have become smurfed. I would look first at doing a Repair Install, to see if things get straightened out.
Good luck,
Hunt
