Is adobe monitoring this forum? No reply since 2009? Major problem - trying to get my Windows XP to upgrade to latest reader. Was never able to get past Reader 7. Not able to contact adobe support either. Hmmm. Sad day- I've always been proud of adobe.
Is adobe monitoring this forum?
Generally no. It is a user to user forum.
I would try to run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility to get rid of all instances of Reader then try the install again.
I have exactly the same problem . I have disabled the UAC as suggested.
I have tried all ways of removing the programme, including the windows cleanup/repair/removal tool. I have purchased "Ashampoo uninstall" programme, 3 utility programmes that guarantee to solve isues with error 1326. I even tried to download the 9.4 version, but as always, when it gets to "removing old files" it comes up with the same code:
Error 1326. Error getting file security C:\users\dell\appdate\roaming\adobe\acrobat\9.0\ Get last error:5 and then windsback the uninstall programme
Ok. I've just used the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility and hey presto it's gone! Thank you.
However, I've now downloaded version 9.4 and when run, the screen still freezes up (mouse still works tho').
When I try to remove it I get the same error codes as before.
All I can suggest that you try the MSI installer http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.4.0/en_US/AdbeRdr940_en_US.msi
Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility again to remove the previous installation.
I have done that and when I open a pdf document it loads up on the screen but after a few seconds the screen freezes again.
The mouse pointer still works but that is all. When I click on the red star to close the programme the screen turns opaque and a "not responding" message is shown. I click a few times and get the windows box "programme not responding - shut down?"
So, I am back where I originally started.
There must be something in my settings that is causing this. Any ideas?
