JSS1138 Jun 9, 2009 10:29 AM (in response to sheryl fillmon)That list is very incomplete. You should be fine with any tape based DV/HDV model camera.

6. Re: Premiere Pro CS3 camcorder help
Fighting Sticks Jun 9, 2009 3:40 PM (in response to sheryl fillmon)Considering the amount of $ you outlay for your editing software, plus the price of a camera - wouldn't you think it was wise to follow their reccommendations. Contrary to some opinion, not just any tape based DV/HDV model camera will be 'fine' for use with the 'CS3' software. So unless it's on the list or you've tested the camera yourself and know it works with CS3, I'd advise you tread carefully.

sheryl fillmon Jun 10, 2009 6:07 AM (in response to Fighting Sticks)Wow, didn't think of it that way. Thanks for the input and after thinking about it I'm probably going to purchase one on their list.

JSS1138 Jun 10, 2009 8:55 AM (in response to sheryl fillmon)I strongly disagree with Fighting Sticks. There are probably dozens of models that will absolutely work fine with Premiere Pro, yet are not on that list - my own Panasonic among them.

10. Re: Premiere Pro CS3 camcorder help
JSS1138 Jun 10, 2009 9:00 AM (in response to sheryl fillmon)I'm using a DVC80, which is no longer made. It's the little brother to the venerable DVX100 models. Cost around $2,000 when I bought it many years ago. I've also used DVC30s without issue, several Sony models not on that list, a Canon model not on that list.
Like I said, that list is very incomplete. So much so that it's practically useless as a guide.

Ann Bens Jun 10, 2009 11:23 AM (in response to sheryl fillmon)The list has never been complete and never will be.
My Canon A1 works just fine. My Canon HV20 works just fine, my Sony 2100 worked just fine (sold in the meantime), my Sony 890 worked just fine (sold also) my Sony TVR110 D8 works just fine.
I should not worry to much about it.

17. Re: Premiere Pro CS3 camcorder help
sheryl fillmon Jul 23, 2009 6:25 AM (in response to jamiep0)Jamie, if you're using CS3 or earlier, you can't capture it. Plain and simple, CS3 doesn't recognize it. Adobe has upgraded CS4 and it captures AVCHD video just fine. I looked up and saw that your camera utilizes AVCHD video technology.
Here's some suggestions:
1.You can try capturing it using another method (windows movie maker) and then importing it into CS3 but I'm not sure if that will work.
2.You can search a "video converter" online and download one that will convert your AVCHD video to a usable format (.mpg,.avi or other usable format) I have done this at home but have never found one that is free. Others have told me you can get a free one online.
3.Return your camera and get one that will work with your version of Premiere Pro CS3.
4. Purchase Premiere Pro CS4
5. I don't know what capabilities you or the camera has but some cameras can directly burn onto a DVD, if yours can and you have the capability of using a DVD player to capture video into PPCS3 then you can also try it that way.
I have captured video so many different ways that I'm amazed sometimes at how I've done it.
Sorry, doesn't seem to be a "quick" fix. And I hope this helped a little.

jamiep0 Jul 23, 2009 10:29 AM (in response to sheryl fillmon)Hi Rick
Are you sure CS4 will work because in the product requirements, you need to have firewire but this camcorder only has USB. How much more would it be to upgrade from CS3 to CS4 is it woth it. What's the difference between the programs. Or should I just return the camcorder and get one that works but I'd hate to do that because I really like the VIXIA HF 20.
THANK YOU
JAMIE

19. Re: Premiere Pro CS3 camcorder help
sheryl fillmon Jul 23, 2009 11:45 AM (in response to jamiep0)Jaime, I'm sure your camera came with a USB cable to attach and capture the video to your computer. That's how you can ingest the video into your computer. I have 2 cameras, 1 of which is very similar to your Cannon. I have a Sony HDR SR11 which is very comparable to yours. I capture the video via the USB cable which came with the camera. But I capture directly into APP CS4.
CS4 works just like CS3 when capturing, Open your Capture window and if you have the camera attached it will automatically come up in the capture window.
You can resolve all pricing questions by simply searching on-line for them. The upgrading issue is all up to you, I can't answer that for you.
I do know that the programs (CS3, CS4) aren't much different at all, although they obviously would have some differences between an older and newer version (more bells and whistles), 1 of which you're finding out firsthand with the ACVHD video capture problem.
If I were you, and I don't know what kind of work you do with your stuff (CS3 and camera) I would simply get a camera that works with PPCS3. You'll probably end up with a cheaper camera and some spending money to put in your pocket.

Thank you very much for helping me. Now I'm going to debate whether or not i get a cheaper camcorder or upgrade to cs4.
