You haven't mentioned which operating system you are using. I'll assume Windows Vista. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Default Programs. Select " Associate a file type or protocol with a program." Next, select the file type and click on the "Change program" button.
Thanks for the reply
Its windows xp - sorry should have said. Thing is I have done the xp version of your rely several times. I notice that Fw isn't on the "list of suggested programs" so I browse through to adobe->fireworks->fireworks.exe and click on that
This makes no difference either. I did try changing the jpeg extension so that it opens with say "picture viewer" or "Dw" - and that works fine.
Any more ideas greatfully received becauase it is really annoying me now! I was wondering if there was a way to ammend the "List of suggested to programs" to include Fw - maybe taht would work?
followed the instructions and browsed through to fireworks.exe
ticked "Always open with this program" and "ok" and hey presto, Ps opens - again.
So no joy yet
thanks again for your suggestions
Carried it through and, it didn't work!!!
what I did notice is that instead of the Fw icon, it has put one for "Windows picture and fax viewer"
something is wrong somewhere!
I seem to remember having this problem some time ago. Two other
Open Bridge Preferences and make sure FW is set as the default editor
for jpeg files.
The other thing you can try is deleting the current file association
(rather than editing it), restart the computer and then add the file
association. Again, it's been a long time since I had this problem,
but I think I ended up having to do this to get things working. Try
the Bridge option first though.
I have set the associations in the bridge - that means that files opened from within the bridge open to the correct program.
I then deleted teh file association from folder options like you suggested and restarted. I then went through the usual of setting the file association for the jpg to Fw and hey presto it opened in Ps again.
Well it's a mystery to me then. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
