I'm not sure what to call this question, but I was wondering if there was a better way to do a 3d "world background" in AE, other than the old box made out of images? (ie creating several solids with seamless images mapped onto them). I just want to have a nice seamless 360 circular background so that when I move my camara around i don't suddenly see seams or the edge of my bg. Is there any way of doing that these days that i don't know about other than the method I just described?
It's fairly easy to tie a 2D panorama to a camera with an expression so that you can pan around and simulate a 360º backgorund. The expression is a bit complex, and the size of the background image for 180º of coverage is about 4X the comp width.
The easiest solution is Trapcode Horizon. I'd check this out. At about $100 it only takes about 1 or 2 projects to recoup the cost.
ah that's what I'm talking about! Viva la trapcode!
