HTML Rendering slow compared to Safari

I debug a lot of my HTML pages in Safari itself ... then I run them in my AIR application which surfaces the same URLs through the AIR HTML control. The rendering time in AIR is MUCH SLOWER than Safari.

Is anyone else noticing the same effect?

Given that AIR and Safari are both based off WebKit, what could possibly be slowing down the rendering times in AIR. The times are not minimally slower, they're WAY slower.

Note: For sandbox reasons, I'm loading the HTML in AIR inside an inner IFRAME. Would that matter to the overall rendering time? (If you ask me, it should help ... given that AIR doesn't have to do anything special to make the page compatible with the application sandbox.)
