I'm an admin on a site with one publisher role assigned, using Contribue 3. When the publisher wants to update an existing PDF, Contribute does not give him the option to overwrite the existing file, instead automatically appending it as "filename_000.pdf". When I publish it from my computer as the site admin, I get an option to overwrite or rename, and the overwrite is successful. I have logged in using the publisher connection key and have duplicated his problem—it simply doesn't give the option to overwrite.
In the admin tools I have made sure that the publisher role can edit any and all files, and can publish to all directories. I've FTP'd up directly to check permissions and file/directory ownership, and all is as it should be.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Two quick things to check:
In the key, does the publisher have rights to delete files? If not, this needs to be turned on.
If you are using Contribute 3.0 (NOT CS3), there is an update available from Adobe which will need to be downloaded and installed. It can be found at http://www.adobe.com/support/contribute/downloads.html.
It was the "delete files" permission that needed to be changed. Works like a charm now.
And my bad: it's CS3, version 4.1 of Contribute.
Had the exact same issue. Publishers weren't getting the "Replace" option upon publishing PDFs. Allowing the delete files permissions worked for me too. THANKS for the solution!!!
