When printing to a PDF, it will only print the artboard. But, when exporting to a jpg, it seems to want to include the area outside of the artboard. (masked object)
Jeff, Jeff, Jeff Adobe does for you and odes for you and this is the thanks they get!
In the save for the web's image tab there is an option to clip to artboard change it according to your needs and hit apply you will see the results.
If you save the document as an ai file it save everything if you export it exports only what is on the artboard.
Thanks for the reply Wade, and I am well aware of the 'save for web' option. I been using Adobe everything for 10+ years. I'm trying to export the image however. Exporting creates larger files for print. Otherwise I would use the save for web option.
Maybe you should try exporting something that is masked outside the artboard to see what I am talking about.
Was that 'save for web' or did you export as a jpg?
Simply check the "Use Artboards" option in the Export dialog. That's all.
Export as Scott wrote and I suggested you use the art board feature when saving.
I assumed since you knew the options was there in SFW you definitely knew it was there for export?
Wade thx for trying, but save for web produces crappy web images. I need 300+ dpi and the options that come with exporting.
Clicking the only use artboard option does not work.
There is not work-around except taking it to another program that actually works.
Will someone PLEASE TELL ADOBE to fix this in their next update?!?!
300 dpi for the web is that what you think.
I would say you really should take it to another program that works.
And you say use only artboard does not work?
Ok I will tell Adobe!
Hey again Wade,
Not sure what you mean by 300 dpi for web. I need it for print and therefore 300 dpi.
Thanks for telling Adobe.
I am going to post yet anther example of an exported png at 300 ppi (dpi is a printing spec and an image resolution)
Again exported at 300 ppi from Illustrator with the use artboard option turned on.
As is seen in Fireworks
Enlarged in Fireworks
As is seen in Illustrator before exporting.
This could not be clearer you are having issue with yourself not Illustrator it happens to the best of us.
This is what it looks like enlarged in Photoshop
