1. Re: Opening Project in 2 computers
Harm Millaard Jun 30, 2009 3:43 PM (in response to Jennifer Elkan)The most important thing is to make sure that the drive letters do not change from one PC to another. If the eSATA drive is designated as drive X on the desktop, make sure it is designated as X as well on the notebook.

2. Re: Opening Project in 2 computers
Bill Hunt Jun 30, 2009 4:04 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)I swap Projects between the laptop and the workstation using Harm's exact suggestion. I've never had one issue. Now, I'm on the slower FW-800 externals, but those are adequately fast for my SD material. eSATA will be better.
Just make sure that you set the drive letter in EACH computer's OS. Harm's naming convention is just what I do: starting with Z:\ and moving back up the alphabet.
Good luck,
Hunt

3. Re: Opening Project in 2 computers
Jennifer Elkan Jun 30, 2009 4:12 PM (in response to Jennifer Elkan)Thanks for the responses. I have the drive set to I: in both laptop and desktop. Still it seems to want to keep conforming and indexing. Under Preferences - Media - I set both Media Cache and Media Cache Database to the external drive too and I checked "Save Media Cache Files Next To The Original When Possible" Does this sound right?

4. Re: Opening Project in 2 computers
Harm Millaard Jun 30, 2009 4:22 PM (in response to Jennifer Elkan)Do this on both your desktop and your notebook:
Right click on 'My Computer', select 'Manage', select 'Disk Management' and then select the eSATA disk (like this Freecom in the picture below). Then in the lower pane right click on the disk and select properties and select 'Change drive letter', like shown below:
When you have done this on both machines, you should be OK. Your other settings seem right too.

5. Re: Opening Project in 2 computers
Jennifer Elkan Jun 30, 2009 5:11 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)Thanks for taking the time to put up the screen shots Harm! This was exactly how I set the drive letters on each computer originally. Somehow it seems to keep on conforming. Looking under my project folder it seems I have multiple copies of the same .cfa, .pek and .mpgindex files. For example if I had a file named "clip.cfa" Premiere will then continue to create "clip_1.cfa" and clip_2.cfa" and the samething with the other file types as well.

6. Re: Opening Project in 2 computers
Bill Hunt Jun 30, 2009 5:13 PM (in response to Jennifer Elkan)Jennifer,
There was a recent article, with response by an Adobe representative (not that common an occurance on these fora), that addressed the constant CFA and PEK generation. It was about a month ago, and I will see if I can locate it. I do not recall the suggestions, or the resolution.
BTW, what version (update) do you have for PrPro?
Good luck,
Hunt
