    Capturing video in PE7

    RpWall

When capturing video in PE7 I get no picture in the preview screen - Capture works fine but I can't see the video during transfer  (can hear the sound ) while capture is underway and that is a bit irritating

      Any ideas?

      Thx RW

What type of camcorder are you capturing from, and are you doing so with a FireWire connection?

Ensure that your video firmware is updated (from your video card manufacturer's site -- not your computer manufacturer's site) and that you have the latest updates and Quicktime, per the FAQs to the right of this forum.

OK Steve - will give it a try    Camcorder is a Panasonic NVGS75 - Mini DV tape ,PAL  (United Kingdom model)  transfer is by Firewire

Camcorder worked OK in PE2 with Windows XP but I am now PE7 with Home Vista -  NB; Picture works fine in the timeline when editing, its just blank on the initial transfer.

Checked the Pannnie support site - there may be something there of use but the inference is that since Windows ME and Windows 98 the camcorder will use windows built in drivers

That's correct. MiniDV captured over FireWire uses operating sytem-based drivers and firmware.

Updating the firmware and driver for the video card, updating the operating system manually (clicking Custom to get all updates) and installing the latest Quicktime should solve your problem.
