Thanks for your answer Harm, but I'm not convinced entirely: the footage is 1080P. and there is a difference between 29,97 fps and 30 fps isn't there?
Because the footage is noninterlaced it's better quality than interlaced footage I think.
Can it be that 30fps isn't compatible with blu-ray? is that what you mean?
I've tried to encode in 30 fps H-264 (without the 'blu-ray' in the preset) but in Encore we still only have the option NTSC 29,97 and 23,976 and 59,94.
29.97 is the only option you have, BR only has 24P in that format. The BR specs do not allow 30P. Therefore you need to use interlaced and it will have no impact on your footage, since each pair of fields (1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, etc.) will display a full frame, only it will consist of 60 fields in 30 frames. Being in PAL country and never having had to deal with the idiosyncrasies of 'never the same color' (NTSC) or dropped frames or non-dropped frames, 2:3:3:2 pulldownand the like, so I am not sure about the distinction between 29.997 and 30, but it is irrelevant for you.
The one solution in my previous post is the only sensible option you have. Try it and see how you like it. Or you have to reshoot with a VIDEO camera, not a STILL camera with some video capabilities.
30p is 29.97 fps. 60p is 59.94 fps. 24p is 23.976 fps. 60i (also called 30i) is 29.97 fps.
1080p30 is not a legal BD format.
Harm is correct - you need to export as HDTV 1080i 29.97 fps
Oke Harm, (and in the meantime Jeff) thanks for your answer.
Just for the record; in PAL it's 25P or 50i, also at 1920x1080. (I'm living in a PALcountry too, but can't be bothered because I view my blu-ray with a PC anyway, so 30 fps (29,97 ) is all right for me.
25P is not legal either in the BR specs. Only 50i.
I'm living in a PALcountry too
Don't worry, as we'll not hold this against you, just like we don't hold it agaist Harm!
And here was I thinking blu-ray was the answer.I'll stick to Exp
ort to Tape
There will be a Firmware update for the Canon 5D Mark II in mid Mar
ch which will allow us to video @ 25fps, that will suit us (as there will be no need for Speed/Duration change for clips in Premiere Pro.,as we use a Canon HV20 @25fps to Export to Tape for display on a Sony 46" HD monitor through the HDMI Input.
That is good to know, and will likely be very useful to Canon shooters.
Thanks for posting,
I have just downloaded the CanonEOS 5D Mark II Firmware Update Version 2.0.3 , and I now have PAL 25 fps and 24fps, how good is that?As well as upgrade in audio and window for audio control(manual)
I'm in the process of downloading. is stuck at 42% and started downloading 5 or 6 times up to now. I guess I have to be patient and then I belong to the high society of 5D 25 FPS users!
I got stuck at 96% last night , it should contnue eventually, but it took 20
minutes,I imagine it is under great stress???????????But, it does work ,
which I find astounding !
Well it happened to me, eventually got there..................................?
I suggest leave the download when it appears frozen , it started by itself after a while ?
