How to deal with points when they're right on top of each other?

I've been fiddling around with Live Trace and creating outlines from text. For some reason sometimes I will end up with two points overlapping each other and no way to get rid of one or the other. How the heck do I clean this up? I know I can do something like Simplify to reduce points on an object, but this goes beyond the fine tuning required to delete just one troubling point.

Even when zooming in as far as possible I am unable to select one point from the other since they're in the same spot.
