Question to Murray and the experts! :)

    Driven Republic Level 1
I would like to start getting involved with PHP and MYSQL but don't know what resources to start with.
I started by purchasing "one" book but could not understand the first word.

I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! about PHP and MYSQL and would like to start some place or book that integrates Dreamweaver CS3 with PHP and MYSQL but assumes you "the reader" have absolutely no knowledge of the subject.

The book I bought is being used under my tires when I change my Car oil. :)

I heard Murray recommended Mr. Powers but I'm not sure which one or if that resources is the best as of yet.

So any suggestion will work. Which book, where ect. I'm very familiar with XHTML and CSS.

      Any recommendations?

Just so you know, I have searched this forum and read some syggestions but not sure how recent those resources are compare to "now" available technology.

      Thanks so much!

Dreamweaver CS3 with CSS, Ajax and PHP by David Powers - another
excellent book, very readable style on how to produce good websites
with Dw. It is NOT like your typical guide to Dw – that just
regurgitates the help files - including the bits of Dw that should
have been binned - David guides you on best practise and the parts of
          Dw to avoid.

Thanks very much for the input.
I have been looking at the first book you mentioned but wasn't sure about it. As you know there are lots of books out there that talks about "Novice" and Beginning" but when you read them it's a whole different story.

              Thanks again.

Well I can only speak from my experience.

I had been thinking of starting to use php for sometime, and had like
you looked at several books, bought a couple. But I didn't get far.

Then I saw reference to David Powers "PHP for Dreamweaver 8.

I took the plunge and bought it - together with php solutions.

David's writing style is one of the best I have encountered, and
although I wouldn't say it was easy, I managed to work my way through
                  the books.

The result - I converted my sites to php and have been using it for
                  over 18 months now.

After I upgraded to CS3 - "Dreamweaver CS3 with CSS, Ajax and PHP "
was released - so I bought that without hesitation and it is just as
                  good - if not better.

I've browsed bookshops since and haven't found anything better.

You can't go wrong with the Powers book.
