THAT WAS COMPLETELY UN HELPFUL.
The links in the original message at that link are VERY HELPFUL
But, you actually have to click the two links in that first message... and reply with the information that is requested
A hint... AVI means nothing at all... I could save a word processing file as myfile.avi but that does not mean it will edit in Premiere
The CODEC inside the file is all important... if you don't know the codec, you will never be able to edit the file with success
Hint #2... go to the FINALLY section at the Wiki link and start answering questions... start with question #1
When you are ready to provide DETAILS to the people here, come back with those details and somebody may be able to help
Hint #3... leave the "attitude" at the door and answer when someone asks a question... nobody here is a mind reader
Run an avi through GSpot and post a screendump.
Then we can see if you are missing the right codec.
Also could be Premiere does not like your avi's because they are divx or xvid. Not much you can do about that but convert them to dv avi or an avi with a codec like Lagarith or Huffyuv.
I read the article and it was very helpful
but i still have some questions?
if need to have it in ms dv codec form, what program do i use to do this? nero, or adobe media encoder?
and is premiere just converting on the fly my mpeg's because they seem to work in that format?
