    Serious Error Happening Too Much!

    cyancat Level 1

      Hello,

      I really need some help from you all here.

      I have had CS3 for years and its worked perfectly since day one.

      Just now in June its started to act up.

      I started a new compostion and while composing, it would say that there was a "Serious Error" and it would have to close.

      THis keeps happening over and over, no matter how many times i would restart the program or computer.

      Many times it happens without me doing anything to the file except watching the playback on the mini-screen

      At times the program would instantly say  as soon as it booted up that "Premiere is Low on Memory and I should change my settings for Memory."

      Uninstalling and reinstalling CS3 does not help.

      I even gave in to get CS4 hoping that it would work.

      THing is, when I imported the file to CS4 all my video was majorly wrong.

      Then I noticed that basically every video I imported to CS4, if it was 5 min 44 secs, it would show that full amount, yet the entirety of the video would be sped up through about the first 10 seconds and then the very last frame would be shown for the rest of the video.

      Rendering the video did not help.

      Plus since these errors keep happening, I can't even Render the video as is so I can try to import it to a new file.

      I have no idea left on what to do. I updated my nVidia Card, which was 6800 Series GPU, and my computer is one that was created for me by Dell 4 years ago. I have about 185 GB left of space, so that isn't the issue as well.

      Video I am importing and working with is avi.

      Please help me out, my deadline is quickly approaching!

          When one starts getting error messages, like these, I first look to:

          1.) System

          2.) Assets

          3.) Project

          Please furnish the complete information on these. Be as specific, as is possible on each.

          Thank you, and good luck,

              Here is the TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE from the PrPro Wiki, that contains a lot of things that might help.

                Cyancat,

                goto 'Support';

                goto 'Knowledgebase';

                print ' optimise cs3 xp;

                return

                read Abobe supplied Tech Note;

                here's one I prepared earlier - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402172.html

                follow this 'to the letter', taking careful note on the section relating to 'disable non-essential startup items'.

                I will be so bold as to suggest that the above line may be where your problem lies - a touch of experimentation rather than just culling them all is advised.

                That should get rid of those nasty error messages and shutdowns and give you back control of your project.

                Edit long!

                  Thank you both for taking time to ponder on my situation.

                  Yet, the problem wasn't The Optimization for Premiere on my XP computer. Its worked for years before this started happening.

                  But the problem I think I found out was with my codecs. Somehow something must have gotten set off or such.

                  After looking at the Troubleshooting WIki that was linked to me, I got the idea that I should update my codecs as long as I was updating evrything else.

                  So I uninstalled my current CCCPack, downloaded the newest one available and installed it.

                  Also I used Quicktime to open one of the videos that was effecting my project, used its feature of "Movie Inspector" which then prompted me to download a Quicktime Xvid codec as well, which I did and installed.

                  Now it works just fine, yet after oping the project again in CS3, found that all my files were 'Offline' since it had imported them as both Audio and Video, tho none of them had audio, and now was reading the files as just Video.

                  Took a bit of work but I got them mostly linked back to the original cuts and tracks.

                  Thanks for the help!

                    Both the commercially available DivX and the open source Xvid CODEC's can be highly problematic to edit. They are good delivery formats/CODEC's, but most NLE programs have real problems. When faced with these (and many other) CODEC's, I strongly recommend converting the files to something that can be edited easily, and that PrPro plays nice with, like DV-AVI Type II w/ PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit Audio. This will make it far easier on the program and on you.

                    Good luck,
