I have a dozen or so videos that I created in the late '80's with Director (under it's original name VideoWorks). It would be nice to revive them and at least convert them to mpeg files. I just tried opening them with Director, but it wouldn't recognize them.
Just wondering if it's possible to resurrect these old files with Director. Has anyone done this?
If they're Director files then they're "movies" in the jargon, as opposed to "videos".
It would be an involved process getting them up-to-date. You'd need to find an old machine capable of running D4 or D5 and try updating them to that version, then running them through D7, D8.5 and perhaps D10 before getting them to the current D11.5. I have all those versions, but nothing earlier than D8.5 installed or running. Is there a small file you could post somewhere for trial?
I've helped a few people upgrade old version DIR files. It generally involves opening the file with a Director two or so versions ahead, then saving and doing it again until you get to the latest. If you'd like to email me directly (firstname.lastname@example.org), I'd be happy to do what I can with yours files.
