Is there a way to view which legacy version a file is saved as from within Illustrator CS4

I am trying out CS4, but nearly all files I need to work with must be saved in legacy (8+9) formats. Is there an easy way, preferably through a dialog box or prompt, to determine what version the current file is saved as? In AI10 when you chose to save a file it would automatically prompt you that it was ok to save down to version 9 (8 etc., whatever version the file was originally saved as), so simply hitting save was a quick way to check the version. In CS4, hitting save simply saves the work as is without any prompting.

I've also had difficulty determining what version the files are in windows explorer etc., as they show up as v.14 because they were created in CS2, but were saved down to 9.

      Any thoughts?

      Thanks,

      Chris
