    Generic Failure

Anytime I try to place any media into the time line/ scene line I get an error. I am able to move the file into the work area but when I move it down I get "Generic Failure" This type of file is not supported ,or the required codec is not installed.

Im using Premiere Elements 7, OS Vista SP 2. Any Ideas on how to fix this?

I am able to view the selected media in other programs.

This most likely related to either your source video or to limitations on your computer (especially if it is a laptop).

What type of camcorder did this video come from?

It is also important to keep your Quicktime up to date. It plays an important role in all video editing.

I'm not sure on the type of camera used, but it yielded quick time files.

I just found instead of adding media from the organize tab,the edit tab allows me to use the selected media.

I'm new to this software, I've been using Power Director 7 and haven't gotten used to this yet.

            Thanks for the fast response
