If horizontalScrollPolicy=false (default) then all columns may get resized so they all fit. If you don't need them to be resizable by the user, set resizable=false. If you do, some folks set resizable=false then back to true on creationComplete, but that's not a perfect solution.

Getting closer. Scroll policy seems to do the trick. However, is it possible that the grid just "resizes", i.e. not for the scroller to appear, but that the grid rows.
Also, I don't know if I need it but you were mentioning a technique with setting resizable to false and than to true, what could I achieve with that?
thanks a lot
Is your columns are static? If yes then you can specify some width to the rest of the columns and just chnage the width of column dynamically. This won't chnage width of other columns.
If your columns are dynamic then you can specify the width of all columns dymanically.
No, they are not static. All of them could resize theor widths based on the data they display. Now it works as Alex suggested if I turn on scrollers, but I'd like to get rid of those too, so that the datagrid just resizes and becomes bigger if any of the column widths are increased. Possible?
