Try changing prefs file to .bak and relaunch ae to create new prefs.
It's somewhere in docs and settings/appdata/adobe/ae/prefs - make sure you can view hidden directories first.
Thanks for helping out here,Its seems the logical thing to do although Im having difficulties locating the folder due to my lack of computer savy,Ive enabled the hidden files and run a seach using /appdata/adobe/ae/prefs but to no avail,

Hello again,actually found the file and location and opened it,Its a nightmare in there, really not sure where to go with this so Ive left it alone any further help on your instuctions would be great.
You can simply delete the AE prefs file and the program wil lcreate a new one with default options. sounds lame, but is a commonly accepted cure for any number of misbehaviors....
