I've recently moved from doing most of my flash using the timeline and manually creating movies to using actionscript. However, I still seem to have to manually create holding movies for each element of my website so that I can organize and orchestrate things - for example when I want certain things to happen at certain times and events. For example, say I have a quite complex sub movie that I only want to start on the click of a button. I currently put all the code for this sub movie in the first frame of a manually created movie and then use onPress and gotoAndPlay statements to get the movie to start and hence the actionscript to activate. My question is how do I code things to give me this level of control and organization with all my actionscript in a single frame on the main timeline?
I hate stuffing everything into one frame. That makes it super complicated. If you want to make a game, you may try the shootorials from kongregate. They are terrific. That helps you start, and you may search different tutorials in the web, such as this:http://www.emanueleferonato.com/2007/10/06/make-a-flash-game-like-flash-element-tower-defe nse-part-1/, which gets very complicated. Or others if you like. The shootorials are good starts for actionscript!
