    Audio track freeze

    Smact

I am having a porblem when I add a clip to the time line, if I expand the audio track it freezes, I can not select, edit or move the audio, it acts as if it is locked byt it is not. If I minimize the audio track I can sleect it, and edit it. Any ideas on what is causing this to happen?

I'm not even sure I understand what is happening, let alone offer an explanation as to why.

Seems very strange, I have gone over the settings, started a new project, used different clips but it does the same thing. As soon as I expand the track it freezes, won't even allow me to right click and check the properties of the clip. Like my note said it asks like it's locked but it's not. The clips are MPG format. Another thing I noticed is when the clip is expanded if I put the cursor on the clip and left click the cursor turns into a plus sign and as I move it becomes a box that expands as I move along the clip, but won't select even if I hold down the ALT key.

            Thank You

Try exporting the audio to a wav file before editing it.

With the Timeline "unexpanded," does everything work, as it should?

I'm wondering if there might be something with your display driver not being able to handle the Waveform Display. The cursor's odd behavior leads in that same direction. What vid-card and driver version do you have?

Also, with the Timeline unexpanded, Rt-click on the MPEG Audio Clip and try Render/Replace. That should convert it to a PCM/WAV and replace it on the Timeline.

                Good luck,

                  The clips are MPG format.

That has caused issues many times before.  My advice is to just not use them.

I just tried an AVI clip, and it does the same thing. Running out of ideas, wonder if there is a setting I don't know about?

I am assuming that your AVI had PCM/WAV Audio. Is that correct?

Any luck on the vid-card drivers?

With PCM/WAV Audio stream, this should say "uncompressed." I'd run the file though G-Spot to see what it says about the Audio, and if there is a CODEC listed.

I just tried an AVI clip

That alone could still cause these issues.  Try a DV clip captured by you over Firewire using Premiere from a tape based MiniDV camera.

I tried a clip right from a tape, still same problem. Starting to think it maybe something to do with Vista, we loaded Premiere onto a PC with XP and it works fine., matched all the settings on the 2 PC's used the same clips and the XP version works, Vista it freezes the audio as soon as you expand the audio track.

I have spent 2 days talking to 4 different Adobe  help desk techs, have 2 more case numbers #181081547, and #202307698. I was asked to un install Premiere CS4, run a clean script, did so, re in stall then check if the problem was fixed, if not it would be escalated up the help desk, I ended up at a jr tech again and was told he could not help me. Not sure if anyone will see this note but have to comment on how poor the service has been. Still have not had any replies from Adobe about the case numbers other than they say they have been closed, not solved!!!!!

That does not bode well for Adobe TS.

There seems to be a lot of this going around. Many have reported the same situation. With some, upon questioning Adobe, were told that they had been sent e-mails to furnish more and specific info. In those cases the posters claim to have never gotten the e-mails. Still, enough instances to make one wonder.

It stands to reason that if it is working fine in XP but not Vista...that might be the problem.  Download any updates that Microsoft might have for Vista.  (I am using Vista 64 bit and it works fine.)  Also, have you downloaded all the updated for the CS4 suite...there were a lot of them, as I recall.

At the left end of the track is a "Show Keyframes" button.  Make sure it is set to "Show Clip Keyframes", not TRACK.

I checked the show key frame button, it was set to " Show Track Volume" , selected "Hide Key Frames" now I can select, edit , move , delete the audio.  Thanks everyone for your help, I feel like a fool, but had tried every button, setting but that one, guess I missed it.
