Check the responses to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/459837?tstart=0 from myself and GKaiseril. The same applies to your situation. Be aware, that for the data to be persistent each time the document opens, the document will have to be saved. Unless you are saving the counter to an external database (or to an external text file).
Thanks for the link. That helps, but since I'm not a programmer, how would that look in code form? Btw, the document would be saved each time, so I'm thinking that should work, at least in theory at this point.
this.getField("Counter").value = this.getField("Counter").value + 1
This will increment the counter each time it is opened. You will need to save the document each time you open it, or the counter will not be retained.
Mmmm...it's counting the fields in my form, not the document. So when I open it, and start filling it in, each form entry starts the counter. Neat trick, but not what I was looking for.
What I posted doesn't count the fields, it increments the value of field 'Counter' each time the document opens, regardless of how many fields you have, or which fields get entered. Each time you open (and save) the document, the number increases by 1.
If you are getting different results, then it's possible you have done something different, or I have misunderstood your requirements. It is working for me exactly as I understand you want it to.
My fault - I had the Js applied to the form field, not the page. Works great!
I know nothing about programing. However, I was able to create a stamp following the directions at http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/2009/05/add_dynamic_exhibit_stamps_in_ac.html,
The problem is that I need the stamp value to increment each time I stamp something. For example, if I have a binder with 40 emails, I want to be able to just go through the pages and stamp each one with the number on the stamp incrementing by one. Can you or anyone tell me how to do this - in language suitable for a "dummie"? Thank you. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks again.

Thanks for replying. So how do I create a form field that increments each
time the stamp is applied do you know? Thanks again for your kindness in
