    New ProRes 4444!  Good-bye Animation codec?

          Errr... Animation is, and always has been, 4:4:4:4. It just doesn't have a marketing department interested in pushing a codec from the 90s that you get for free

          Quicktime PNG is also 4:4:4:4.

          Both Animation and QT PNG are 8 bit RGB only, though.

            Not in a million years! ProRes ain't that good and as long as Apple do not pull their fingers out of their body cavities and make any FCP CoDec available on Windows, it's of no use. Doesn't do me any good, if I can read ProRes on Win (and even that took them 3 years to implement), when the next day my editor gives me the evil eye because I have to give him his treated clips back as Animation, PNG, Microcosm, Image sequences. So no, even if that sounds harsch, Apple have no clue on those matters and all they are doing is "adding just yet another CoDec" and cementing a monopoly.
