    Update is failing to install

    Steve Moody

Running on a MacBook, OS 10.5.7. Have Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium (can’t bring myself to upgrade to CS4, yet $$).

I am trying to install the 13.0.1 Update for Adobe Illustrator CS3, but keep getting an error that “The update cannot be applied to the product”.  I am trying to update from version 13.0.0 which I had to reinstall due to Update failing to install updates because of components being missing. The components where likely missing because they did not come over from backup (Time Machine) after installing a new hard drive.

Here are the last several lines from the Console log for the installer.  I think it has the information needed to answer my question, but I don’t have a clue.  I can dump more lines if needed, but I don’t know how many will be accepted here before my post starts to get truncated.

I hope this doesn’t mean that I have to wipe out CS3 and install from scratch.

Have you tried simply reinstalling 13.0.0 from original media, then apply the update?

You haven't run anything like Monoligual or X-slimmer have you?

In the applications/utilities/adobe installers select the add remove cs3 creative suites and run it to uninstall AI CS 3.

            But first deactivate it.

            Then reinstall.

Yes i would say this means the easiest way to fix this is probably reinstall since the updater does not think you have a legitimate copy of Illustrator running.

Even at that you might have to contact Customer  Service if you have difficulty activating or running. if I were you I would reinstall the whole suite.

BTW knowing you have to activate your license to the Creative Suites to install on different computers would you not think that this would be a wise choice when installing on new hard drive?

I would keep this in mind for the future just a good safe policy and way to avoid trouble.

              From question:

" I am trying to update from version 13.0.0 which I had to reinstall due to Update failing to install updates because of components being missing."

So yes, I did install from the original media.

By what method did you uninstall it?

You might have to use the cleanup script.

Creative Suite retained the activation, so that it not the issue - especially since the other applications (DW, PS, ID, etc) are not doing this.  I'll try removing AI and then reinstalling. Now to the fun of making copied of my custom menu and settings. Happy happy joy joy.

As for deactivating prior to changing the hard drive, I can boot from the original hard (in an external enclosure now) so I could have deactivated that way if need be. I have enough experience with computers 20+ years to be wary of making changes prior to upgrading. I appreciate your time, but I didn't come here to be second guessed.

Who said I uninstalled it?  Not me.
