I am trying to achieve a certain effect in AE which I thought I culd figure out on my own. But I've hit a wall (early on).
What I would like to do is show an ariel view of a patch of dirt. Then drop a book on it (a still pic of a book) and have the dirt/dust kick out from under the book and swirl around.
I don't know anything about coding or scripting. However, I saw the preset for Particle Playground and thought iot would be easy to figure out on my own.
When I follow the adobe tutorial (http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/8.0/help.html?content=WS3878526689cb91655866c 1103a9d3c597-7ab2.html ) it just makes the layer I selected (dirt layer) dissapear and only red dots show up.
Can anyone help?
Dots/ squares are the default particles. For a dust swirl, you should create some sort of puff, which can be done easily with Fractal Noise, limited to a circular shape and animated in a pre-comp. You can then assign it as the layer map in teh plug-in interface.
