Encore and my new problem, the dreaded BSOD

    DawnTreader777 Community Member

I have a project that I have almost finished. Just having problems with a few motion backgrounds, which should all now be fixed. I cant tell however because now I try to open the project in encore and after nearly finishing loading I get a blue screen.

I just updated my video drivers after the last time I exported the project to try on a DVD player and the error message says that nv4_disp.dll was what it crashed on. So I think that might be my problem, but, then why doesn't it crash on all projects? Is it possible that one of the video files in the project is causing the drivers to crash? The one file I changed was a small 3 second transition.

I am going to try and uninstall the driver and load an older set, but I thought I would post to see if there were any other ideas. This Encore project has already been redone once due to another error. Starting to really hate Encore.

          Ok. so...

going back to an earlier driver fixed the problem. actually may be totally finished the project.

but my question is why would loading an encore project with 2 dynamically linked premier projects and around 24 little video clips used for transitions and fade into menus would crash a video driver. the only thing i can think of is that one of the premier projects actually has all of its video from an AE dynamically linked comp.

          But still why?

From my experience, it is most likely that the culprit was an OS update, or hot-fix. These have a tendency to break, or render obsolete, video and audio drivers on a regular basis. Most people have their OS updates set to automatic, so they likely never know that they got an update. Things work fine one day, but not the next.

Now, I am not saying that an Encore Project could NOT break a driver (though I have never heard of such), but only that an OS update can, and will, do exactly that.

            Glad you're up and authoring.

            Good luck,
