    Saving image with transparent canvas

I want to put a drop edge on an image and save it with a transparent canvas.....

Created a file with transparent color canvas.

Copied my image onto that canvas.  The canvas extends past the edges of the image

Implemented and adjusted the drop shadow on my image.

      So far everything is fine...

Save as a jpeg.  The canvas becomes white.

Save as a layered tiff.  The canvas becomes white.

My problem is I want to insert the image into a Publisher document that has different colors on the page and I don't want this white canvas to show up...  So, how do I save the image with the drop shadow without getting the white canvas?

If you saved it as a jpg and then saved the jpg as a tiff you don't have transparent areas any more because jpgs can't have transparent areas. You need to get rid of the white and then resave it as a tiff, PSD, Gif or PNG file, since those formats allow transparent areas. I can't speak for what happens in Publisher, though. In some programs you'd need an alpha channel rather than transparency for what you want to do. Not sure about Publisher, since I don't use it.

EDIT also, in PSE don't flatten your file. Background layers can't be transparent. Merge the layers if you need a single layered file, rather than flattening.
