Are there any scripts or plug-ins available which will allow all text brought into InDesign to be linked to the source (much in the same way an image updated in Photoshop would automatically update in InDesign).
To put it another way, text would be created in Excel and if possible cells would be tagged to InDesign text boxes, so if an amend is made at source (in Excel), InDesign will recognise this and update automatically.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
If you want to place a spreadsheet as a linked table, you don't need a script for this – go to Preferences > Type > Lynks and check Create Lynks When Placing Text and Spreadsheets Files.
Listen this podcast for details: http://indesignsecrets.com/indesignsecrets-podcast-038.php — (Why you should/should not link to Excel or Word file).
But if you want to link cells to separate text frames — export from Excel–import to InDesign XML-file may work for you.
There is also some driver — I can't remember it's name right now, it was mentioned on this forum recently — that seems to work with Excel files directly, but it is only for Mac.
