Your source clips are of a smaller dimension (vert x horiz) than your project setting.
(Like placing a postage stamp on a piece of paper)
As Craig states, you Assets do not match your Project/Sequence settings. Use G-Spot, if necessary, to determine the exact dimensions, and specs. on your Assets, and match your Project/Sequence to those specs.
Glad this subject came up... in my first Pr CS4 project, I dumped a 960x540 clip into a 1920x1080 project, so I have the same thing going there... I could rebuild it all, but I really just want to change the project to a custom size to match the one clip I have in there. But when I view the Sequence properties, that area is grayed out. Should I just drop the sequence and add in a new one with the specs I want? Can you tell I'm a noob?

Yes...to both questions.
Thanks very much to all who replyed - problem solved.
Think I'll get crackin' on that sequence so I can start un-noobing... (new word)
