Execute 2 ComboBox "change" events in a single click

I have two ComboBox instances. When the user selects the first one, i need to programmatically update the selection of the second one, broadcasting its "change" event too.
I use comboInstance2.selectedIndex to update the selection label but i don't know how to execute the "change" event.

      In AS2 it could be "comboInstance2.dispatchEvent ( {type:"change"} );" but the AS3 equivalent "comboInstance2.dispatchEvent (new Event ("change") );" doesn't seem to work.

      Any suggestions?
      Thanks.
