1. Re: CS4 Crashes opening 32 bit AE files
SG... Aug 3, 2009 11:01 PM (in response to therayman)Is this an updated version of AE CS4? What format did you export to?

2. Re: CS4 Crashes opening 32 bit AE files
therayman Aug 4, 2009 12:48 AM (in response to SG...)Both AE (9.0.2.42) and Photoshop (x64 11.0.1.0) are the latest versions and the operating system (Vista x64) is up to date with the latest drivers etc.
I exported a photoshop sequence.

Mylenium Aug 4, 2009 1:09 AM (in response to therayman)You mean 32bit PSD files? Or OpenEXR? How do you render/ export them from AE?

4. Re: CS4 Crashes opening 32 bit AE files
therayman Aug 4, 2009 2:30 PM (in response to Mylenium)I export using the render que to Photoshop format with the depth set to floating point and colour premultiplied.

5. Re: CS4 Crashes opening 32 bit AE files
Mylenium Aug 5, 2009 9:27 AM (in response to therayman)I don't get any issues. Do you use any special color profiles?

Chris Cox Aug 5, 2009 6:17 PM (in response to therayman)Where can we find a copy of this file?

7. Re: CS4 Crashes opening 32 bit AE files
Chris Cox Aug 5, 2009 6:17 PM (in response to therayman)1 small problem - PSD is not a premultiplied file format.

therayman Aug 5, 2009 7:54 PM (in response to Chris Cox)That rather explains it doesn't it.

I don't think so. I used the exact same settings as you described and did not get crashes. Whether the RGB channels are premultiplied with the BG color or not really shouldn't matter, even if PS internally will unmultiply and work with straight Alpha.

10. Re: CS4 Crashes opening 32 bit AE files
therayman Aug 6, 2009 11:15 AM (in response to Mylenium)I found that a 32 bit Targa does work so my immediate problem is solved. I
will try it on a different machine when it finally finishes rendering in a
day or so and see if its a machine specific problem.

11. Re: CS4 Crashes opening 32 bit AE files
Mylenium Aug 6, 2009 12:53 PM (in response to therayman)You are aware that 32bit Targa actually means 8bpc (8bit per channel, 4x8 for RGB+Alpha), not 32bpc as PSD, float TIFFs and OpenEXR would allow? Maybe we have simply misunderstood you, but if you experience any banding in the TGAs, that's the reason why...

12. Re: CS4 Crashes opening 32 bit AE files
therayman Aug 6, 2009 1:05 PM (in response to Mylenium)Yes I am aware that the targa is a lower res image but this one is usable
for the comp for the moment. I will replace it later when I figure out what
is going on. I think it may be a problem with the video driver. Older card
Nvidia drivers don't work very well with CS4 in my experience. My main
machine has a better video card but is doing a very long render at the
moment.

Chris Cox Aug 10, 2009 3:15 PM (in response to therayman)Again, where can we find a copy of that file that causes Photoshop to crash?
I can't fix the bug if I don't have the file.

Not a bug but a video card a driver problem.

16. Re: CS4 Crashes opening 32 bit AE files
therayman Aug 10, 2009 3:59 PM (in response to Chris Cox)which is why I posted it. A new driver solved the problem.
