    Can't save Illustrator file

I'm getting a message that states that the file is read-only or another user has the file open so it will not let me save the file. I know that neither one of these situation applies in my case from checking woth other users and the permission for the file itself.

I am able to save the file to another location with the same name or the same location with a new name. This does not happen to every file but today there have been quite a few of files responding this way.

I found a post stating it could be corrupted preference files but I'm having difficulty locating the preference file(s). I'm running Illustrator CS3 on a windows XP box.

If someone can point me to the preference file(s) or to another explaination for why this may be occurring it would be appreciated.
