It is my understanding that a List only creates children that are visible and children that are immediately next to the viewport. When scrolling, the other children in the list are created when they are ready to be displayed in the viewport. I understand that this is an internal mechanism to free up memory and speed up the layout rendering process.
My question is, is it possible to set a property or create a method to add all children rendered in the list at the moment it is created, rather than limiting the children to only those close to the viewport? thank you -b
Some containers have a creationPolicy property that can be set to "All", but in your case this property is not an option. This might not be easy other than extending List, and in your case that might be hairly.

I just set useVirtualLayout=false, didn't even have to create a custom layout and now everything works as expected! Thanks to both for helping, special kudos to Flex harUI!
