ColdFusion nor mySQL will speed up the rendering of the images.
Transfer of the file (file size) and actual displaying should be of equal delay. So I would guess that what you need is to show some images, get the page displayed, and then download the remaining images.
I even spread the downloading of the remaining images over time with an onFrameEvent handler.
Thanks for the reply. Question. Would using a repeater with the TileList to address the XML provide a possible solution. Some images do show up already, however, they kind of randomly pop in one at a time until all are there. This seems to be kind of nerve racking to my customers, so they say. I was thinking the perhaps the larger photos was a problem. But the thumbnails are very slow as well.
I am looking to the best way to eleviate this problems because it is a photo driven catalog site. I really need to cut the load time down if possible. Or, perhaps Flex Builder 3.0 is not the solution needed and PHP with a database is? Still looking for more possibilities.
Are there any takers on this one? :>)
Well, You could make a custom preloader that waits until the first n images are loader and then switched to the page.

For one thing, setting creationPolicy to all will slow your initial load :-)
