Illy is, or was in earlier versions, generally not very good at modifiying images.
It will probably be much easier to work in Photoshop if you have it.
If you replace the set of 4 process colours by the set of 4 spot colours, you should end up with only the latter set of 4, not 8. Please clarify.
Jacob thanks for replying.
I have PC Adobe CS4.
I want two images on the same page. One the original and one modified to use the spot colors. so four process colors plus four spot are eight total.
can this be done?
I see: you wish to create a copy with altered constituent colours (inks).
I presumed your image to be raster (JPEG or the like). Is it, or is it vector artwork?
If vector, you should be able to change the colours quite easily, more or less directly in the copy; exactly how depends on the artwork.
If raster, I am afraid it is difficult, maybe easy/easier in Photoshop.
A screenshot might be helpful; you may upload it using the Camera icon, to avoid delay by queueing.
Duplicate one channel, then delete the original. Now you can rename all channels.
In order to do this fast and editable at any time, I made an action, because I do this every day in my job. Here the steps
1. Duplicate the channel you want to convert
2. Select that channel and run the action, this opens the spot channels option window
3. Click on Color and change to any color you want, Pantone or process.
4. repeat the steps for any other channel you need.
I attached the action
