Can't you create your application without nested item renderers ?
Are you sure there is no other way ?
This is not really a pattern in Flex.
Also, can you post your code to see what could be wrong in there (other than nesting item renderers) ?

If you assign your dataproviders rather than binding, this will be reduced.
Thanks for the replies. The nested renderers work great, not sure why that is not a pattern in Flex ( i think it should be :) ) . Anyway, the issue was that I was binding to a node in the XML that didn't yet exist.
