Which animation preset are you applying?
I am trying to apply a text animation preset. I was trying other text presets and nothing worked.
Tell me specifically, exactly, step-by-step what you are doing, including telling what animation preset you are applying, what you are applying it to, and how you are doing it.
Tell exactly how you are determining whether it is working.
Attaching a screenshot might help.
Adobe help simply says drag and drop the preset onto the desired layer, did it and nothing happended.
You are not using a text layer? Text presets are specific and only work on native text layers, which you must create before applying the preset. Short of that I could only think of you trying to use a preset from a newer version of AE, but you would get a warning for that. The same would be true if there was a language conflict. So the most logical conclusion is, that soem prerequisites are not met and AE cannot create the property controls for the settings contained in the preset.
I wanted to say thank you to Todd and Mylenium for attempting to solve my issue. I found out that I didn't know what a Text layer actually was. It seems that I had never been taught by my instructor about creating this type of layer. The only way I knew to create text was by creating a solid and then applying a text effect to it. But anyway, things are all good here now. To tell ya the truth I feel kinda dumb finding out that this was the problem. What can I say, we all learn new things everyday.
You will probably benefit from reading through the "Text" chapter of After Effects Help and the tutorials and such that it links to.
If you need to start from the beginning and learn about the basics of After Effects, then I recommend working through the items under the "Getting started" heading on the After Effects Help and Support home page.
Yes, these resources are largely about the new version of After Effects, but text animation hasn't changed a lot since version 6.5. (Some, but not fundamentally.)
Thanks. I'll check it out.
