1. Re: Lightroom & Camera Raw problem
Jao vdL Aug 17, 2009 3:07 PM (in response to bonalymac999)These are FAQ questions but alright:
I have Lightroom 2.4, and if I click on the "about" option, I get told I have camera raw 5.4. However I have no DCP files installed, and so no camera calibration options. All I see is "Embedded".
Lightroom is completely independent on camera RAW. The version it shows is the camera RAW version the code internal to LR corresponds to. This is indeed confusing.
If you have LR 2.4, you HAVE dcp files installed. This happens automatically. You will only see calibration options for RAW files for very obvious reasons. You must be looking at a jpeg or tif file. Just look at a RAW file and you will see calibration options. You will only get camera matching profiles for Canons and Nikons though.

2. Re: Lightroom & Camera Raw problem
JimHess-5IFZWq Aug 17, 2009 3:09 PM (in response to bonalymac999)There is no Camera Raw update for Lightroom! Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw plug-in. All of those features are part of the Lightroom program. The profiles should have been installed when you installed Lightroom 2.4. When you see "Embedded", that usually indicates that you are working on a JPEG image. You have to be working on a raw image in order to see the other profiles for your camera.
What camera do you have? Some cameras did not have a lot of different profiles. When you have opened a raw image in Lightroom, are you able to see the different profiles? -
3. Re: Lightroom & Camera Raw problem
Ian Lyons Aug 17, 2009 3:25 PM (in response to bonalymac999)If you have LIghtroom 2.4 installed there is nothing more to install. The reference to Camera Raw in About Box simply tells you the version that's embedded within the Lightroom code.
The profiles should have been installed as part of the 2.4 install. Therefore, not being bale to see them would suggest that your images don't match with any of the available profiles. This would be normal if images are JPEG or TIFF. Some older DNG files will also show the profile as Embedded.

4. Re: Lightroom & Camera Raw problem
bonalymac999 Aug 18, 2009 3:30 AM (in response to Ian Lyons)Thanks everyone. I got more info on this one post than in an hour looking round Adobe’s web site.
I also checked the FAQ's before I posted. There are 31 messages there, I've checked again, and none of them have RAW or Profiles in the title. Now there may be something in an article, but I didn't spot any relevant titles.
I also did a search on the forum itself for Raw & Camera profiles. There were a number of articles in there, but no CLEAR statement like you guys have just given me. I did find one that explained where the DCP files were (admittedly on an XP machine although this wasn't mentioned in the post). So I searched in the equivalent position under my User on Vista. Unfortunately I've now discovered Adobe has moved them to
I then compounded the problem by checking the wrong file in Lightroom. I basically store photos for myself and my wife on my PC, and on my Canon I always shoot RAW. So I then looked at the 1 jpg from my Canon this year!!!!! (well OK maybe there's a few more, but you know what I mean.)
But this is all part of the problem. It appears that we need to be experts to find the simplest of bits of info. It is still not clear to me how I update CR for Elements and CS3 (but I think at last I've found it.). Those who are professionals or experienced users can find info relatively easily, but a hobby user like me who might only need to look here once a month struggles to get answers. That's why the forums are so good.
So thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

bonalymac999 Aug 18, 2009 3:32 AM (in response to bonalymac999)Now thyere's another issue. I wanted to tick all as "Correct Answers", but I ticked one and the choice disappeared from the opthers so sorry, I wanted to say all three were correct, so it was luck which one eventually got selected!
