    Can't delete frame

    cinnylou
      I'm creating a site that has NO FRAMES. In fact, when I look at the pages in design and code view, there is no evidence of frames. When I preview each page, there is nothing in the code regrading frames. BUT... when I publish the site, it creates a frame around each page and now my pages don't refresh properly. They all refresh to the index page. The site is: http://www.hhoconnection.com

      I'm sure I'm doing something wrong since I'm new to Dreamweaver. But, I've created other sites and have not had this issue. Can anyone shed some light on this?

          Take a look at the source code for the page you are publishing to the internet:

          <frameset rows="100%,*" border="0">
          <frame src=" http://www.shaheenproductions.com/hho/index.html" frameborder="0" />
          <frame frameborder="0" noresize />
          </frameset>

          This code is in your source code so you do have a frame in there. And the frame is loading a page that is not on your server (unless both of the domains are on that particular dedicated machine).

          What are you seeing in Design view of DW?

            Your host is doing this nasty trick to you. I would immediately change
            hosts.

              check with where who you are using for a domain name Registrar.
              Or who made the site or registered the domain name.

              It looks like something you are paying for.
              Frame based domain name redirection.

              The actual site pages are at a different domain name, that's why the frame
              is there for That domain name.

              Did shaheenproductions.com originally create/publish the site? If yes, they
              cheaped out and pointed that domain name through a frame based redirect
              service so they could host the pages within their site instead of providing
              it with proper hosting.

                Yeah, that's what's so weird. I didn't create any frames and the design/code view starts with:

                <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" " http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
                <html xmlns=" http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
                <head>
                <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
                <title>Welcome to HHO Connection - the place to go for everthing HHO</title>
                <style type="text/css">

                never mentions a frame (unless I'm not seeing something here). That code for the frame only appears after publishing. We're using Shaheen Productions web space for this site, in a new directory. Shaheen Productions does not have this issue.

                  I'd like to find out more about how my host may be creating this issue. Can you explain or point me to online info that addresses this?

                  Thanks

                    HA HA..that's great! We are Shaheen Productions and we DID cheap out!!! Now we know better. Thanks for all the info. I'd rather pay the extra $$$ per month than headache this anymore.

                      > We're using Shaheen Productions web
                      > space for this site,

                      The way THEY have registered the domain name and assigned it web space is
                      why there is a frame.

                      short and simple: Get a real host and go to the domain name Registrar that
                      was used [godaddy] and turn off the redirection and inpur real DNS numbers
                      to the hosting.

                      In other words- when people type in that domain name, it comes up to a
                      single page hosted at godaddy with the frameset redirect; the content of the
                      frame is where the site actually is.

                      The site isn't really hosted, it's pointed to.

                        Ask your host if they are framing your site. They'll know exactly what you
                        are talking about.

                        Here's the thing. The code you see when you browse to your domain name
                        cantains a frame that is sourced to this location -

                        http://www.shaheenproductions.com/hho/index.html

                        which is where all of your "site" files reside.

                        In other words, the host is obfuscating the fact that your website is not
                        configured as a *real* website. The downside to this is that you (perhaps
                        unknowingly) inherit all of the disadvantages of frames. Change hosts.
                        This is a slimy thing to do if you didn't know it was going to happen.

                            Relax, Alan. We own Shaheen Productions and we also own HHO Connection. We only do web sites for our own businesses. We could use the extra space on Shaheen Productions for HHO if we didn't care about the whole "refresh" thing.

                            I appreciate your help. We set-up a new site with our server for HHO. Sounds like that will fix the issue according to you and our ISP. Thanks again.
