    File>Open Recent

    Chrsitian Community Member

I run CS$ on Vista.  The 'Files>Open Recent' list bear little or no resemblance to the images I actually had open recently.  I am not on a network, and the only one working on this computer.

I have no iedea as to where to even begin to fix this issue - any help would be appreciated!

My understanding is that when you work a picture, (for example) close it, then go back to it later it looks different?  Did you save your picture/work before moving on to the next picture/work?

That's not it.  I am talking about having images listed in  'Open Recent' that I have not worked on in days or even weeks, while the ones I just worked on and closed/saved are nowhere in sight.

Go to Edit, Preferences, File handling and change Recent File List Contains to 30.

That would just mean he's likely to find 30 random images that he hasn't worked on in ages instead....

Chrsitian, if the links to "recent" image are not the images that you actually have recently been working on, then obviously there is something wrong. The first thing that springs to my mind to see if it helps, is to reset the preferences. Do this by holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift as soon as you start up Photoshop. It will ask if you want to delete the current preferences, say yes, and it hopefully will fix it. Note that if you have a custom user interface, save it first because resetting the preferences will change it back to factory settings. Hope that helped.

EDIT: Also, i think you may have to restart photoshop to put the images into the recently opened list for its next startup, but i'm not sure because i have never looked. Obviously if you have restarted photoshop then that isn't the case.

That list often gets a bit dodgy. I would just clear it and let it populate again.

When you clear recent open files it is cleared. PS CS4 does not go looking for 30 more files to open least on my version anyways.

I opened, just for the heck of it, 15 files and closed PS. I opened PS and they were there. I cleared recent opened files and closed PS and the 15 files were not listed. I opened and closed PS 2 more times and the recent opened file list was empty. PS CS4 did not generate and populate the recent open file list with 30 files as you stated it would.

Didn't know that John. My recent files list seems to work fine, but then i rearly use it.

Dec9, i know it doesn't go looking for 30 more files recently opened, i meant in the future that wouldn't fix his problem because it would just show 30 files he hasn't worked on in ages. It's a strange error seeing as all it has to do is write to a file somewhere stating the path locations of the "X" number of files last opened, so unless the application crahsed or didn't close properly, i don't see why it would have a problem.

By the EDIT area i did, i meant to make photoshop realize what files you have been working on in that seesion, you have to restart it for them to also show in that list, but i'm not sure if it does it straight away instead. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks - I think that fixed it, for the time being anyhow.  Seems kinda strange - many thanks for all the help!!!

Thanks so much for all the good info.  For now it seems to be fixed by just changing the list to 30.  Makes not much sense to me, but it works.  I will keep your solution handy in case I have further problems.

                          Again, a million thanks!!!!
