1. Re: Multiple questions
Bill Hunt Aug 24, 2009 10:33 AM (in response to Lame Tigrrrr)Let's take these one at a time:
1. I've seen a lot of dvd videos that on their start page (first play page), there is background video playing within the static background. Background video in the sense that it is not linked to any chapter or another menu of the dvd. Can I do this in Encore?
This would be done in PrPro. You would basicaly be creating a PiP (Picture in Picture), where the static image, say a .PSD would be your background, and the Video would be playing "inside" of that. In PrPro, Import your .PSD (or JPEG, etc.) and drag to the Timeline on Video Track 1. Extend it for the desired Duration. Import your Video Clip, and place it on Video Track 2. Now, you can use the fixed Effects, Motion>Scale, and Motion>Position to alter how the Video Clip looks over the background. If necessary, the Effect>Transform>Crop might be useful. I often will do Track Matte Keying on my Video, to soften edges, etc., but that's not usually necessary - will depend on what you want. When done, Export from PrPro and Import to En as a Timeline. Link this to Play First, and then link it to your next Asset - probably a Menu.
Good luck,

2. Re: Multiple questions
Bill Hunt Aug 24, 2009 10:36 AM (in response to Lame Tigrrrr)2. I want to make a chapter index but the En failed generating a General Application Error. What's the posible cause of the error?
This one could be a bit tougher. Let's start with a full description of your Project, and then all the details, that you can provide, on your Assets. Then, tell exactly what you are doing with these Assets in this Project, to get this error. Probably more work on your end, as someone will likely see the problem straight away. At least I'm hoping so.
Good luck,

3. Re: Multiple questions
Bill Hunt Aug 24, 2009 10:39 AM (in response to Lame Tigrrrr)3. When I previewed my dvd menus, all links worked as expected. But when I built it, one menu buttons which is linked to another menu, played a chapter instead of displaying the menu linked to it.
First, how did you navigate, when you did the Preview? Could be something there.
Can you post a screen-cap of your Flowchart, showing that problem Button, and its link? Hint: use the little "camera" icon to attach the JPG and also do it with low-compression, so we can see detail. Attach like this:
Good luck,

4. Re: Multiple questions
Lame Tigrrrr Aug 25, 2009 5:29 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thanks a lot for the replies to my 3 questions.
I should have responded to your reply to my second question but I came to a don't-know-why situation: I redesigned my menus and when I supplied the command again, the creation of chapter indices went through without any problem (although I'm still not satisfied with the result as I have to see its effects yet when I build my project). But I really regret in not following your recommendation because coming with a correct solution to the problem would surely help others who might get into the same kind of trouble.
I was able to solve my 3rd problem but still I cannot explain to myself why such a problem occured. The situation then was, I have six menu pages the first one (my first play page) containing the Play All, Scene Selection and Bonus buttons. My main sequence has a total of 19 chapters that I distributed to the remaining 5 menu pages so that each one contains 4 chapter buttons except the last one which contains only 3. I made every leading chapter button of each menu page auto activated. When I rendered and previewed my motion menus I was able to navigate to-and-fro via next and previous buttons, played specific chapters thru the chapter buttons, played the bonus and "Played All". The problem came when I built it and play with the PowerDVD installed in my pc that when I clicked the next button in the first menu page, it played the chapter 1. But when I unchecked the auto activate button I did on my first build and rebuild the project for the 2nd time, the problem disappeared. Again, I still cannot explain it.
I have new questions but I'll post it in a new thread so everyone can see it. Somebody might have a problem related to these.

5. Re: Multiple questions
JSS1138 Aug 26, 2009 7:01 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)This would be done in PrPro.
You can create this type of menu directly in Encore as well.

6. Re: Multiple questions
Bill Hunt Sep 2, 2009 2:03 PM (in response to JSS1138)One could create a Menu to do this, but I would opt for doing an AV file with the control that PrPro offers and not use a Menu.
