    Ram question for CS3

    fatmatt14

Is 4 GB of RAM with 32 bit Windows plenty of RAM for Prem. Pro CS3 or is it worth it to get 64 bit Windows and get more RAM.  How much faster will my exports be if I get over 4 GB of RAM?  Does Adobe utilize the extra memory?  Is there a memory top out where it's just overkill?  Lots of questions, I know, but I am buying a new system and would love to hear your input on RAM upgrades.  Thanks.

You are only telling us about PR. Do you use AE, EN, PS and others at the same time?

For PR solo and XP32, it makes no sense to go over 4 GB.

For the combination of programs on XP32, it makes no sense to go over 4 GB. XP is limited to 4 GB.

For PR solo and Vista 64 or Win7-64 you can go over 4 GB.

For the combination of programs on Vista 64 or Win7-64 you better go up to 8 or 12 GB, depending on your mobo.

For CS4 (whether solo or combination) and Vista64 or Win7-64, only go for 8 or 12 GB.

I used CS3 fine with just 1GB of RAM.  You'll be even better off with 4.
