I hope for many of you it's an easy question.
I created a text animation effect with "Data Stream", then exported to SWF. It's a nice effect, but after importing (Control-R) the SWF into Flash CS4, it's too wide for later using the "Drop Shadow" filter in Flash. I got this error when I apply the shadow: "Warning: Filter will not render. The DisplayObject's filtered dimensions (9212, 79) are too large to be drawn."
I realized the problem is the text effect is too wide. I tried using the mask function in AE, but still got the same "too wide" effect after exporting.
Please give me some hint how to reduce the size of the effect. Thanks.
Nest your "Data Stream" composition in a composition the size of your Flash stage (in After Effects).
Then, render the nested compostion for use in Flash.
If i remember, Flash doesn't like rasterized data more than 4096*4096. Not sure, but I know that there is a limitation, had the problem at the studio once.
As Steve said, pre-composing and having it rendered as an FLV element seems a reasonable way to approach this. Ideally, of course, you woud simply create it inside Flash based on code. Swish Max for instance does a lot of that already similar to what AE's text animators can offer.
