    Flash Builder 4

    Phillip-Gordon Level 2

      Hi,

I am very new to this

But, I am very much interested in Flash Builder 4

      I have a question?

I do not have any servers?

Is it still possible to build a app and use the internet,

      instead of a server?

I want to be able to develop my own apps

but I do not have any servers?

Is it worth my while to install Flash Builder 4?

Can someone please help me decide?

      Thank You

          Hi,

If you want to create applications for the internet something has to provide that application over the internet so if you want someone to access your flashbuilder application over the internet you need to either upload it to a web server or have a webserver set up on your pc with access to the internet.

A flash application will work locally in your browser or in the flash player so if you sent someone the application it would work on their local machine if they had flashplayer 10 installed even if they didn't have an internet connection. Of course if you wanted a desktop application you would be better off compiling the project as an AIR application which even gives you an embedded database server(you can read all over the internet about Flash/Flexbuilder desktop applications).

If all you are concerned about is database server's then this is not a requirement, flashbuilder applications that require data don't need to use database servers(although it is highly recommended). You can use xml files or even basic text files to provide information to the application.

          David.

            Hi,

            David

            Thanks for all that information

So, it is ok, if I install Flash Builder, and play around with it?

My friends have Adobe Flash CS4, and Flash 10

I also have Adobe Flash CS4

I just want to play around and see what I can come up with.

And again, thank you for your time.

            Regards

            Phillip

I would recommend that you do have a good look at flashbuilder, especially if you are interested in action script coding, you always have the forums to ask questions once you start "playing" with the builder and getting an idea of how much more powerful it is than Flash CS4 for creating RIA's.

                Ok,

                Thanks David

I will install it, and see how I go.

                And thank you!

                Regards
