I want to get a new computer and upgrade to Adobe CS4 Production Premium. I will be shooting on a Canon HV20. The Minimum System Requirement listed by Adobe is a 3.4 GHz CPU for HDV. Do I absolutely have to have 3.4 Ghz? I have been told a Core 2 Duo at 2.8 GHz will do but I don't want to spend a lot of money on a new computer and software and find out the computer can't support the software. I currently use the same camera with a computer with a 1.6 GHz Core Duo and Adobe Premier Elements. Elements says is needs a 3.0 GHz CPU for HD but this set up works, albeit, the playback is extremely choppy. All of the features work and the output is fine. Thanks for any help and guidance anyone can provide.
The articles linked HERE will get you started on your new system.
Trying to get by with less than the minimum requirements is dicey at best. It might work, but your editing experience will suffer along the way. My wife's MB S-class AMG requires 91 octane gasoline. It will run on lower octane fuels, just not so well.
The short answer is that the 3.0 and 3.4 GHz specs refer to the much older Pentium 4 processors. Modern processors do use a slower clock speed, but are still much faster due to changes in the chip architecture.
